June 1stThe Role of Food and Health: Cholesterol and Blood Sugar. Learn how what you eat or don’t eat can affect your body’s chemistry. Get some ideas for healthier food options to help manage cholesterol and blood sugar levels and sample a recipe.

 

June 8th: The Power of Plant-based Eating:  Eating a plant-based, meatless meal a few times a week can lower your cholesterol and improve your heart health. Meatless meals are better for your health, the planet, and your budget. They’re a great way to help you increase your servings of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and nuts.

 

June 15th: A World of Spices:  Shaking the salt habit doesn’t mean you have to settle for bland food. The world is rich with creative, flavorful alternatives to salt (sodium). Spices are a healthier alternative and add variety and savory flavor to meals. Learn some examples of spices to use to create flavors from around the world.

 

June 22ndSnack Smarter: Learn how to slice up a simple snack with easy and healthy tips. Snacking smarter with fruits and veggies will help you get lots of vitamins, minerals, and fiber to help you look and feel your best!

 

June 29th All the Flavors of the Garden: Understanding how different flavors balance and counterbalance each other can help you be more comfortable with cooking because you will have a better idea of what foods go together and what flavor combinations you enjoy. Learn how to make the most of these flavors in home cooking by seasoning dishes with herbs and spices.
