The Broome County Public Library (BCPL) is seeking applicants for the position of Librarian I for the Information Services Department. Located in downtown Binghamton, New York, BCPL is the central library of the Four County Library System. The work involves providing readers advisory, computer assistance and reference services at the information desk.
Responsibilities include:
- Working at the reference desk
- Readers advisory
- Assist patrons with the use of the library catalog and computers
- Website and social media updates
- Adult programs
- Assist with community outreach
Requirements:
- An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree
- Possession of a current New York State Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate at time of appointment
- A commitment to public service and the ability to serve a diverse community
- Ability to deal with the public and to resolve public service issues in a courteous and efficient manner
Preferred: This is an entry level position, however some library experience is preferred.
Initial appointment will be on a provisional basis pending the completion of a credential-based civil service exam.
Starting salary: $52,054/year with full benefits
